WEEK #13: New Spring Migrants

Nothing of note here this week. We haven't received any more seed orders, the persistent cold weather means we can't spread the rest of the compost, and rototilling is definitely out of the question.

We had a few days with temperatures near 10 Celsius this week.  This little spike in temperature, along with southerly winds, finally brought in our first Tree Swallows this week. Getting out for a little bit of birding also revealed some of the Eastern Phoebes that have been around for a while.  Unlike the American Robins and Red-winged Blackbirds, that can feed on insects, berries, and seeds, swallows and phoebes are exclusively insect eating birds and feel more like true harbingers of spring as they can only survive on flying insects.

Snowy Owls continue to linger with 1 or maybe 2 individuals hanging around the immediate area.

HAPPY EASTER!.....oh and APRIL FOOLS!!  Not sure if the light snow flurries we had here this morning was an April Fools joke or not....
