To help get us through we are beginning to plan for spring. Marianne finished the signs for the latest additions to the mini farm which will be placed outside once the ground thaws.
Another practice we try to accomplish in the winter months is making bread. We have tried to make a sourdough starter in the past, but the yeast would die after a few weeks. We decided to give it another go this weekend by taking a large jar, and add 2 cups unbleached flour to 2 cups water. Over the next few weeks we will continue to feed it.
We also found a bee supplier this past couple of weeks. A quick look on kijiji.ca and we found someone who is selling nucs just around the corner from us! Now we just have to buy the supplies before the beginning of June.
Never a fun job, we cleaned out the chicken coup and replaced the bedding. The floor was actually quite damp this time. When Marianne opened the coup she was met by 2 broody hens.

We planted microgreens in the basement under our grow lights. We planted Arugula, Kale, Oriental Mustard, Mizuna, and Beets.
