April 9th -April 24th :Snow, Greenhouse, Chicks, Cedar Trees, Rototilling and Weeds!!!

April so far has been an interesting month filled with both cold and warm temperatures.  On April 9th, we had hopefully our last snowfall.  We were so eager to get outside and do things after being cooped up all winter, but we had one last weekend to stay indoors and plan our spring agenda.

The following weekend though was the complete opposite with temperatures reaching up to near 20c! With it this warm out we decided to place the plastic up on the greenhouse.  With this addition the greenhouse is about 90% complete.

An April 19th, we got our Rhode Island Red chicks.  They are currently living in our garage with a heat bulb to keep them warm.  Every day we go and spend some time with them so they get used to us.

On April 23rd, we picked up some cedar trees and planted them where we cleaned up back in March.

On April 24th, Aaron rototilled the gardens as the weeds are really starting to grow now. The weed battle also commenced with Marianne walking around the yard removing thistles, and afterwards into the bush lot to pull garlic mustard.  Pulling and hoeing weeds will now be a weekly ritual from now until the fall.

The forecast from now into May looks quite cool with temperatures only reaching just above 10c. We will be planting peas shortly, but unfortunately our potatoes won't be delivered until the first week of May.  Locally, people have had their potatoes planted for the past few weeks now.
